Second Semester: Are You Ready?

Many of us said "adios" to Semester One right before winter vacation, and as usual (at least on my end), the two weeks "off" flew by!

Thankfully I put away all of my Christmas and winter holiday decor on the last day of school and had pulled out the snowflakes, Martin Luther King Jr. posters so they'd be ready for the stapler today.

Living in Oz means my students are required to learn about and celebrate Kansas Day (January 29).  While we learn about our state symbols, we also observe changes in the weather, learn about MLK Jr., pick up several more sight words, work with addition and subtraction, and look for patterns in numbers to thirty.  My Super Stars paint, find and work with environmental print, get their craft on, and continue exploring their kindergarten world while hoping and wishing for snow to fall:

Are ~*your*~ fingers crossed for snow days?

I wish there was a chance of snow days here... We only have a chance of getting hurricane days at my school....

Love your snow pics and personality!
I'm originally from Kansas. Taught in NW Kansas for 20 years!
I'm frustrated. I teach 1/2 day Kinder. (2 sessions per day) I feel I have to teach them so much in the 1 1/2 hours that I have them per day, there's no time for fun. Phonics sheets and teaching them to read, teaching them to write letters, words, sentences, pick out the subject, verb, object in simple sentences, specific programs for math...I don't even have time to fit in what the Kinder curriculum requires at this school let alone fun time to make snowmen or play. Any suggestions that you have found that work? I've taught 28 years this is the hardest job by far. No paras to help and no PM volunteers.
    Thank you!

  3. LOVE your snow themed stuff- your room looks magical. I always wonder how long it takes you to get it all looking like this? I just can't seem to find the time to get it all done. I get great ideas from you though!
