I Snuck Back into My Classroom...

...where I found a SMARTBoard!

The location of the board necessitated a slide-to-the-left of my students' desks. More tweaking of the furniture will take place tomorrow, I'm sure.

Though it's still quite bare-bones, I had to stop re-arranging because my blah bulletin boards were screaming *Chicka, Chicka!*

I'll be adding text to the hallway boards before students arrive ("Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Look Who's in Our Room!" I'll also figure out a cute project (using cardboard tubes and scraps of green and brown paper?) so students can make their own coconut trees the first week of school. Something tells me that I'll want to save the trees for a "Where the Wild Things Are" display later in the year!

  1. I'm curious about the placement of your SmartBoard. We struggled at my school to make sure that little ones could still reach and use it.

  2. I've seen SMARTBoards mounted on rolling stands where the height is adjustable- which would be great, but I'm thinking with my projector suspended from the ceiling (permanently mounted) and the fact that they left me half of my marker board, it will all work out. I already know that I'll have to have many interactive lessons and activities lowered to the bottom of the board, with my toolbar up on top. A low step has been suggested, but I doubt Risk Management wants 1) my kiddos twisting an ankle coming down off of it wrong or 2) ME killing myself over it daily!

  3. Oh, I love the palm tree. We have had one up for a while, but it got destroyed at the end of the year so I have to make a new one. Do you mind if I use your pattern? I love it.

  4. Go right ahead! I grouped three pieces of off-the-roll paper and freestyle cut leaves in three different designs (so I had nine branches to work with- though I ended up cutting more once I got coconut-tree-crazy) and then let the brown paper just stay in its roll shape and stapled it up so it ended up with a 3-D effect. Plain brown construction paper for the coconuts- it was fun!
